We know very little about SSGT Willie Pope. The local paper had him listed as a PFC. However, according to the DOD, and National Archives, he was a SSGT. His unit was fighting around Devantave, France on the 6th of January. Fighting against the 2nd SS, and 560th Volksgrenadier Divisions. The casualty report for the 84th Infantry listed 129 casualties for the day, that he was reported KIA.
