PVT Walter A. Baker 07-31-1918

US ARMY WWI
167th Infantry 42nd Infantry Division | KIA 7/31/1918 | Granbury Cemetery

With his headstone getting harder, and harder to read, and very little information available for him, Walter A. Baker is one of our heroes, that we know very little about. One newspaper article was found that mentions his mother, in May 1947. From the article, we know he was in the 42nd Infantry Division, and was one of the first from Hood County during WWI, to answer his country’s call. The 42nd Infantry was in constant combat from March 1918 to August 1918. Fighting in 6 major campaigns. His headstone, stands as the only reminder of his sacrifice for our freedom.
