505th Parachute Infantry, 82nd Infantry Division, was KIA on June 8th 1944. Two days after Jumping into France, as a part of Operation Overlord.
In the days after 6 June, the 505th RCT defended the town of Ste Mère-Église against German armor and infantry assaults while near constant bombardment by German artillery and mortars.
