Dec. 17th 1964, Jack Camp, a Junior from Tolar High School stood on the south lawn of the Hood County court house and participated in a ceremony accepting granite Historical Markers honoring General John Bell Hood, and General H.B. Granbury. He spoke at the ceremony, about the courthouse, and the men who built it. Now, 58 years later, a memorial is going to be built, on that same south lawn, to honor him and 40 other men who laid down their lives upon the altar of freedom. Those from Hood County who died while serving their country during war. Captain Jack Camp was only 22 years of age when he was Killed in action, in Vietnam. He was a helicopter pilot but as he was returning from a mission, he volunteered to be a door gunner when he was shot down in the line of duty. He lost his life, at age 22, fighting for our freedom.
