On September 9th 1943 the U.S. landed at Salerno, Italy. Lt. Dale Cleveland's platoon came under heavy fire. Most were able to find cover, however one soldier moved into an exposed area and was wounded. Lt. Dale Cleveland went to his aid, and while pulling him to safety he was killed by enemy small arms fire.
Lt. Dale Cleveland graduated from Granbury High School, and then went on to graduate from Texas A&M. From there he attended the University of Tennessee, where he received his master degree .
He left behind his wife, Catherine Cleveland, as well as his parents Hugh Cleveland and Cloyce Powell Cleveland.
