1SG Herchel L. Elliott was the son of Murry Elliott. He grew up in Granbury, Texas, attending public schools there and was a graduate of Buckner Orphans Home in Dallas. He served with the 47th Infantry Regiment, 9th Infantry Division, U. S. Army, in France. He was killed in action during the Battle of Hedgerows, July 20th 1944.
